In a highly-anticipated Betway Premiership clash, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates battled to a 1-1 draw in a match that lived up to its billing. The encounter saw Peter Shalulile put the home side ahead, only for his effort to be spectacularly canceled out by a long-range strike from Pirates' 20-year-old youngster, Cemran Dansin.
Following the match, Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou expressed a sense of a missed opportunity for his team. He believed the balance of play justified a victory for the Sea Robbers, stating, “To be honest, I think it’s a game that we should have won, based on the physiognomy of the match, and the number of chances we created, and today I think, to be honest, it should have been a victory for Orlando Pirates.”
Despite this feeling, the coach chose to focus on the positive aspect of earning a point, adding, “But let’s go with this point, let’s not be too tough on our boys, they did well and let’s go and fight in the next games that we have in hand, and let’s go and take the lead on the log table.”
Ouaddou dismissed the notion that the result gave his squad a psychological advantage over the reigning champions. He concluded by acknowledging the thrilling nature of the contest and the uncertainty of their next meeting, framing the battle as a stunner that could yield a completely different outcome in the future.
