Abel Braga has been handed a five-match suspension by the STJD after a homophobic comment made while coaching Internacional late in the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro.
According to ESPN, he must also pay a R$ 20,000 fine, and the suspension applies to the Campeonato Brasileiro.
At the time, he said he did not want Internacional to wear a pink shirt because it looked like a team for gay men.
He kept Internacional up in 2025 but chose not to stay on as head coach in 2026. The club have appointed him as technical director of football.
Flamengo now turn to Botafogo in the Campeonato Carioca quarter-finals. The winner progresses to the semi-finals, with a draw sending the tie to penalties.
The match is scheduled for 17:30 Brasília time on Sunday 15 at Estádio Nilton Santos. Rede Globo on free-to-air and Premiere on pay-per-view will broadcast the game.
