Adam Armstrong made the switch from Southampton to Wolves on deadline day
Adam Armstrong has posted an emotional farewell message to Southampton supporters following his deadline day move to Wolves.
The forward has ended a four-and-a-half year stint at St. Mary’s with a transfer to the Premier League side.
It has been reported that a deal worth up to £9 million was agreed between the two clubs, with £7 million guaranteed.
Armstrong was a key part of Tonda Eckert’s first team squad at St. Mary’s, with the 28-year-old contributing 11 goals and four assists from 29 appearances in the Championship this season.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with West Brom, where he scored three in 16 in the second tier before returning to the Hampshire outfit following their relegation from the Premier League.

Armstrong has thanked the fans for the support he received during his time at Southampton, claiming that the club will always hold a special place in his heart due to both of his children being born there.
He has named being captain as the biggest honour of his four-and-a-half years at St. Mary’s, while also citing the play-off final as a particularly enjoyable win with the team.
“After five years here @ Southampton Football Club my time has come to an end,” wrote Armstrong, via Instagram.
“It’s been a rollercoaster of a journey for all of us.
“The highs and the lows.
“Thanks to the club for putting faith in me, the staff & players who have helped me along the way.
“The fans: I hope I have given you enough moments that you will remember, the goals, the celebrations, the misses, the wins and especially the play-off final.
“What a day that was.
“As a fan base you are knowledgeable/passionate but show compassion when we have faced difficult moments.
“The biggest honour given to me was I was able to captain this fantastic football club, not many people get that honour and I want you all to know I gave it my all everyday and every moment on and off the pitch and tried to represent you all in the best way I could.
“This isn’t a goodbye as our paths will cross not only on the football pitch but off it.
“Our two children were born here and as they get older we will always bring them back.
“My family and I have a new chapter in our life to forge but our lives have been bettered by having this time in Southampton.”
Armstrong has departed Eckert’s side as their top scorer in the league so far this season, with Finn Azaz second with a tally of seven.
The forward has also left St. Mary’s with the team sitting 14th in the Championship table, seven points adrift of the play-off places.
It has been a frustrating campaign for the Saints, who have a tough task ahead of them to earn their place back to the Premier League.
Next up for Southampton is a home clash against managerless Watford on 7 February in a 12.31pm kick-off.

Armstrong has been a key part of the Southampton team this season, and his exit is a real blow to their promotion chances.
While he has been far from perfect, he still contributed 11 goals prior to his move to Wolves, and letting someone of his calibre go will be tough to replace.
A fee of around £9 million also isn’t that great for a player with a proven track record at a Championship level.
