Al Duhail ‘to move for’ Gonzalo Plata as Flamengo wait on market | OneFootball

Al Duhail are exploring a deal for Flamengo forward Gonzalo Plata, with the Qatari club keen as the Rio side consider moving him on after recent internal issues. The club are preparing a move for the next transfer window.

Flamengo have, however, held off progressing talks for now, preferring to wait for a more favourable moment. RTI Esportes reports that director of football José Boto intends to assess the market after the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, with Plata certain to be in Ecuador’s squad and potentially increase his value during the tournament.

The winger has faced internal criticism at Flamengo after behaviour that displeased head coach Leonardo Jardim. He was left out of the travelling party for the match against Corinthians in São Paulo.

Despite that club setback, Plata remains an important figure for Ecuador. He featured against Morocco on Friday 27, providing an assist and conceding a penalty.

Flamengo turn back to domestic matters, facing Red Bull Bragantino on Thursday two at 21:30, Brasília time, in Bragança Paulista, in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
