Kicker reports that Eintracht Frankfurt and NK Celje still haven’t negotiated the final details of Albert Riera’s move to the Frankfurt bench. The German publication claims that the Bundesliga club wishes to negotiate down a €5m exit clause in Riera’s current contract with his Slovenian club.
The fee should present no significant problem for Frankfurt. It nevertheless remains the case that other issues could preclude, or at the very least stall, Riera’s move to the Bundesliga. Eintracht do still have alternatives lined up and may turn to them should they conclude that negotiating with Celje is too difficult.
Sport Bild reports that Eintracht wish to pay Celje around €1.3m in compensation. The sides remain far apart. Given the current state of negotiations, it might prove the case that Frankfurt’s interim training regime remains in place for this weekend’s Bundesliga fixture against Bayer Leverkusen.
Riera will take over after that.
Bundesliga journalists continue to ask themselves this question. The 43-year-old has never coached at this level before. The former Spanish international is known for having a fiery personality and enjoys a reputation as a “hands-on” motivator.
It might simply be the case that Eintracht seek something of an antithesis to previous head coach Dino Toppmöller, who possessed a meeker and more technocratic demeanor.
