Late last week, Manchester City saw their opening bid for Elliot Anderson rejected by Nottingham Forest. David Ornstein broke the news for The Athletic that City’s opening offer for the England international didn’t meet Nottingham Forest’s expectations. Despite this initial setback, City have always been confident that they’ll sign their main transfer target this summer. Now it has been reported that City are readying a second offer for Elliot Anderson. Also, City remain confident of reaching a deal with Nottingham Forest to land the midfielder they desperately need.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City are preparing to put in another official bid to Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson. Furthermore, Romano reports that City are confident of securing a deal to sign the England international. Lastly, Romano reports that while Manchester United retain an interest in signing Elliot Anderson, City are ahead in the race to land one of the Premier League’s elite midfielders.
One of the biggest priorities for Manchester City during the upcoming transfer window is to strengthen their midfield. City’s midfield needs a reboot to bolster a critical area of the pitch. A player like Elliot Anderson, who would add tenacity, technical quality, and an elite ability to win duels, would be a huge addition to the City engine room. What is apparent is that Manchester City are wasting no time in trying to conclude a deal with Nottingham Forest to land Anderson.
The fact that City are intending to come back to Nottingham Forest with a second offer for Elliot Anderson indicates that they are extremely confident of landing the England international. Fabrizio Romano has reported this, and Manchester City’s actions back up this notion. It now remains to be seen if Manchester City’s second offer for Elliot Anderson is enough to satisfy Nottingham Forest’s demands. What could be in City’s favor is that there is nothing to be gained by Forest dragging their feet with the Anderson deal. Nottingham Forest have their own business to do this summer, and if they can conclude a deal that sees Elliot Anderson arrive at the Etihad, it is in their best interests.
For that to occur, Manchester City have to put in an offer that Nottingham Forest are willing to accept for Anderson. It is now a waiting game to find out if this occurs. Fabrizio Romano’s new report does give hope that it could come sooner rather than later. Hopefully, it does from a City point of view so they can move on to other summer transfer business.
