Liverpool could reportedly be at risk of losing both star player Mohamed Salah and sporting director Richard Hughes to Saudi club Al Hilal.

There is still some uncertainty about Salah’s future despite him signing a new contract at Anfield towards the end of last season.

Al Hilal are believed to be keen on the Egypt international, and they’re also being linked with Liverpool chief Hughes, as per the Daily Mail.

If Al Hilal were to land Hughes, it could then be a useful connection for them to also go and sign Salah from Liverpool.

Should Liverpool keep Mohamed Salah this summer?

Salah’s form has dropped off a lot this season, with the 33-year-old clearly no longer at the peak of his powers.

See below for a comparison of his stats in 2024/25 and 2025/26, with Salah simply not coming anywhere close to those previous heights that saw him play a starring role in the club’s success…

Mohamed Salah’s stats this season vs last season (DataMB)

Salah scored 34 goals in all competitions last season, but has a total of only 10 so far this term.

His previous lowest tally in a season was 23, while this could also quite conceivably be the first time he finishes a Premier League campaign without double figures for league goals.

All in all, it might not be the worst thing for LFC to part ways with Salah this summer, even if that old saying goes ‘form is temporary, class is permanent’.

Unfortunately, Salah just doesn’t seem to have quite the same pace and sharpness to his game anymore, and Liverpool should start working on bringing in a long-term successor as soon as possible.

That, of course, could be harder if they lose a key figure like Hughes as well.
