According to L'Équipe, Orlando City SC hope to sign Antoine Griezmann before 26 March, when the MLS window closes.
Orlando joined MLS in 2015 and have accelerated their growth in recent years.
Owned since 2021 by businessman Mark Wilf, who also owns the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, they have twice reached the Concacaf Champions Cup and lifted the 2022 US Open Cup with a 3-0 win over Sacramento.
Coach Oscar Pareja has led the team since 2019, although 2025 ended with ninth place in the East. They play at the 25,500-capacity Inter & Co Stadium and lost their 2026 opener 1-2 to New York Red Bulls on Sunday night into Monday.
If the 34-year-old arrives, he would follow fellow world champion Kaka, the 2007 Ballon d’Or winner, who scored 25 in 78 games from 2015 to 2017.
Other notable names include Julio Baptista in 2016, Alexandre Pato in 2021-2022, and Nani, who hit 31 in 88 between 2019 and 2021. Last season’s standout, Colombian striker Luis Muriel, returned to Junior FC last month, while right-back Alex Freeman, 21, MLS’s best young player in 2025, joined Villarreal for 3.5 million euros in late January.
Griezmann, capped 137 times for France with 44 goals, would join compatriot Joran Gerbet, 24, a midfielder who moved to US college football in 2021. One other Frenchman has featured for Orlando, Aurélien Collin in 2015-2016. The women’s team, Orlando Pride, led by Marta with a Brazilian core, won the 2024 title and boast Zambia’s Barbra Banda.
