Antoine Griezmann is in discussions with Orlando City over a possible MLS move, with talks ongoing and no agreement in place.
The Athletic reports that Orlando hold his MLS discovery rights, giving them priority to negotiate, while AFP, citing a source close to the player, says discussions are happening but nothing is defined.
The France forward remains with Atlético Madrid and is focused on significant fixtures in the middle of the European season.
At 34, he is Atlético’s all-time top scorer with 210 goals and has long been linked with the United States. He has often expressed a fondness for North American sport, especially the NBA.
Griezmann is under contract until June 2027 after last year’s extension and has 12 goals in 35 matches this season. His status is less untouchable than in previous years.
He played for Atlético from 2014 to 2019, then joined Barcelona before returning permanently in 2022. He won the Europa League in 2018, but missed out on a major title with Madrid, including the 2016 Champions League final.
Orlando City opened their 2026 campaign with a 2-1 defeat to New York Red Bulls. The league, home to Lionel Messi, Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris, aims to capitalise on the 2026 World Cup spotlight. Griezmann turns 35 in March and ended his international career in September 2024.
