Liverpool boss Arne Slot says Alisson and Mo Salah are “very close” to returning to training but are yet to take part ahead of the game against Chelsea on Saturday.

As an undoubtedly disappointing season for Liverpool comes to a close, Arne Slot’s men must finish on a good note, starting with the task of getting three points against floundering Chelsea.

Liverpool have had to make do without several starting players recently, including goalkeeper Alisson and Salah, both absent with muscle injuries.

Neither player is expected to feature against Chelsea, as Slot admitted they have still not returned to training with the first team, although second-string keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is closer to returning from a knee injury.

“Alisson not yet, hasn’t trained with us yet but very close,” Slot said. “Mamardashvili will train with us today for the first time, so let’s see how he is going to react.

“Mo also hasn’t trained with us yet but is also getting very, very close to training with us.”

As for Isak, who was absent for four months of the season with a broken leg before missing Liverpool’s latest defeat to Manchester United with a “minor” problem, Slot was hesitant about his return at the weekend, saying: “Alex [Iask] has trained with us again, only for the first time, yesterday. So that is a positive, yesterday he did pasts of it [training]. Hopefully he can do parts or all of it today. Then we will see how much we can use him tomorrow.”

Ibrahima Konate and Florian Wirtz had also been missing from training during the week, though Slot confirmed that there was no major concern with either player.

“Ibou had a personal reason not to be there [training on Wednesday] but was yesterday and today again and Florian was a bit unwell but he trained with us yesterday also,” he said.
