Ex-Real Madrid boss has backed giants across the continent
Carlo Ancelotti has named the four teams that he thinks can win the Champions League this season, but Arsenal do not feature.
The Brazil manager picked one English side within the quartet, although the Gunners are joint-top of the Champions League table after four games.
Mikel Arteta’s side made it ten wins in a row with their 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague on Tuesday, with makeshift striker Mikel Merino notching a brace. =
The result meant that the north Londoners equalled a new club clean sheet record dating back as far as 1903, with eight clean sheets in a row, and Arsenal have not conceded a single goal in Europe this term.
However, that still has not caught Ancelotti’s eye, with the Italian instead naming Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and his former club Real Madrid as potential winners of Europe’s top competition.
“Seen from the other side of the world, the Champions League has the usual favourites,” Ancelotti told Tuttosport.
“Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.
“In these first few matchdays, we’ve seen matches with high goals, and such sensational results make us lose interest.
“This first phase has been expanded to make it more interesting, yet it’s not turning out that way. We have to accept that.”
Arsenal reached the last four of the competition last term, falling to eventual winners PSG.
Liverpool are another Premier League side that Ancelotti omitted from his list, and the six-times winners edged out Real Madrid at Anfield thanks to Alexis Mac Allister’s header on matchday four.
