Gabriel Jesus has given another public update on his Arsenal future amid reports concerning a potential return to his native Brazil.

The former Manchester City striker has been frequently linked of late with a possible reunion with Palmeiras, where he began his professional career and helped win the club’s first title for over two decades before heading to Europe as a highly-rated teenager in 2017.

Jesus’ place at Arsenal has become subject to plenty of speculation amid a long injury layoff that has seen him sidelined since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during an FA Cup tie against Manchester United back in January.

The 28-year-old underwent surgery and has been on the comeback trail ever since, eager to finally bounce back from the latest significant setback of an injury-plagued three-year stint in north London that followed a £45million switch from Premier League title rivals City in the summer of 2022.

The exact time frame for Jesus’ return to action for Arsenal remains unclear as he continues to try and rebuild his fitness, with manager Mikel Arteta continuing to give positive updates but stopping short of offering a likely date with December or January previously mooted as potential possibilities.

Palmeiras has been frequently cited as an attractive next destination for Jesus, who remains under contract at the Emirates Stadium until the summer of 2027.

And while he evidently holds his boyhood club - where he scored 28 goals in 83 appearances across all competitions before leaving aged 19 - in high regard and definitely plans to return at some point in the future, for now he is fully focused on seeing out his current deal at Arsenal.

“I'm very grateful to Palmeiras, it's the club I support and I've made it clear to some players there that one day I'll come back,” Jesus told Globo Esporte in Brazil.

“But not at the moment, I'm under contract with Arsenal until 2027 and my wish is to stay here. If for any reason, both parties understand that we can't extend beyond that, at least until 2027, I'll be here.”

Earlier this week, the Daily Mail reported that Arsenal could be open to offers for all of Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Ben White in the New Year, with Ethan Nwaneri possibly considered for a loan move but fellow academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly staying put.

They claimed that Arsenal hope that Jesus returns in December to potentially pique interest from suitors in January, otherwise they plan to sell him next summer.
