Aston Villa strike €35m deal to sign OGC Nice’s Evann Guessand | OneFootball

Evann Guessand (24) has been expected to leave OGC Nice all summer. He now looks set to finally get his move. According to a report from L’Équipe, he is set to join Aston Villa in a deal worth €35m.

Speaking after the final game of the Ligue 1 season in May, Franck Haise was pessimistic about the club’s chances of retaining Guessand. With limited funds, Get French Football News understands that Nice were even looking to sell, in order to fund a renewal of the playing squad.

In late July, Haise reaffirmed his belief that Guessand would not be part of his plans for the upcoming season, stating that there was a “90% chance” that he would leave. Le Gym accepted a €35m bid from Neom SC, however, the Ivorian turned down the move. Guessand instead wanted a move to either the Premier League or the Bundesliga.

He is now on the verge of joining Aston Villa, as per L’Équipe. The deal is worth €35m, including bonuses. The Ivory Coast international, who came through the ranks at Nice, will sign a five-year deal with the Birmingham-based club. He is expected to travel for his medical on Wednesday.
