Aston Villa are monitoring Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes as Unai Emery looks to add attacking depth this summer.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 28-year-old features on Villa's shortlist for a window in which the club must act carefully to stay within UEFA's financial fair play rules.

Barnes has produced 16 goals in all competitions despite the Magpies' difficulties in the Premier League.

It is understood the former Albion loanee, from Leicester, would be open to a move if talks progress, though Newcastle are expected to seek up to £40 million for a player with two years left on his deal.

Emery wants extra cover as Villa prepare for a Champions League return. A permanent move for Jadon Sancho is considered unlikely after a largely underwhelming loan from Manchester United, while the futures of Evann Guessand and Leon Bailey are uncertain.

Crystal Palace hold an option to buy Guessand for around £28 million after the Ivory Coast international spent the second half of the season on loan at Selhurst Park.

Villa will also seek suitors for Bailey, who featured only sparingly after being recalled early from a season-long loan at Roma.
