Raffaele Palladino has confirmed that Ederson’s absence from Atalanta’s final day draw with Fiorentina was a deliberate decision taken in agreement with the player himself, with the Brazilian’s possible move to Manchester United now appearing increasingly likely.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, via TuttoMercatoWeb, Palladino made no attempt to disguise the reason for leaving one of his most important players out entirely.
“It was a choice agreed with the player because there is something happening on the transfer market,” he said. “The fact that a player like him is being followed by such an important club should be a source of pride.”

The club Palladino was referring to is understood to be Manchester United, who have accelerated their pursuit of the midfielder in recent days.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, new contacts between the two clubs are expected next week as both sides look to finalise the deal. United have been the frontrunner for some time, with Atalanta’s asking price understood to be in the region of €50 million.
Atletico Madrid had previously been considered serious rivals for Ederson’s signature, but the Spanish club appear to have shifted their focus towards other targets, leaving the path largely clear for United to complete what would be a much-needed addition to their midfield.
For Atalanta, the departure of Ederson would be a significant loss heading into next season. Palladino’s acknowledgement of the situation in such a public forum suggests a deal is closer than ever.
