Athletic hit by 10 absences for Bergamo trip as Iñaki and Nico Williams, Berenguer and Yuri out | OneFootball

Ernesto Valverde takes a makeshift Athletic to Bergamo, where they must beat Atalanta tomorrow to keep their Champions play-off hopes alive. There are 10 absences, five undisputed starters.

Athletic completed their final session at Lezama before flying to Italy, then the news turned bleak. As reported by as.com, the number nine Iñaki Williams suffered a left calf injury in Sunday training. He is pending further assessment but will miss several matches.

Late on, three more dropped out, Nico Williams, Berenguer and Yuri. Nico has an adductor overload, Yuri a hamstring issue, and Berenguer a foot problem.

Williams’ absence in Italy adds to the injuries to Laporte, Sannadi, Egiluz and Prados, plus a suspension for Yeray. Izeta is not registered.

There is some relief as Vesga, out of the last two matches with lower back discomfort, has trained normally in the last two sessions. Serrano has also recovered from an overload.

Valverde has again turned to youth for a big night, calling up De Luis, Ibon Sánchez, Adrián Pérez, the now regular Selton and Hierro. The squad list numbers 23.
