Atletico Madrid Team News

Diego Simeone’s side faces multiple injury concerns ahead of Wednesday’s encounter. Alexander Sorloth remains suspended following his red card against Mallorca, where the Norwegian striker was dismissed for a high challenge in the 72nd minute.

Jose Maria Gimenez, Alex Baena, and Thiago Almada are all sidelined with muscle injuries and are not expected to return until early October. Johnny Cardoso is also unavailable after suffering an ankle injury during Monday’s training session.

Rayo Vallecano Team News

Inigo Perez’s squad continues to be depleted by long-term injuries. Abdul Mumin remains the biggest loss with a cruciate ligament injury that will keep him out until late November. Luiz Felipe is sidelined with a hamstring problem expected to last until mid-October.

Randy Nteka continues his recovery from a contusion injury, but Nobel Mendy is fit and ready to play. Jorge de Frutos has been in excellent form with two goals in five league appearances and will be crucial to Rayo’s attacking threat.

Form

Atletico Madrid

Los Rojiblancos have endured a disappointing start to their 2025/26 campaign, collecting just six points from five matches. Their season began with a painful 2-1 defeat at Espanyol before drawing consecutive matches with newly promoted Elche and Deportivo Alaves.

A much-needed 2-0 victory over Villarreal provided temporary relief, but Diego Simeone’s men were held to another frustrating 1-1 draw at Mallorca. The club’s €190 million summer investment has yet to yield the desired results, with the team struggling to convert dominance into victories.

Rayo Vallecano

Los Franjirrojos opened their campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory over Girona, showing the attacking flair that made them Conference League qualifiers last season. However, they have managed just two points from their subsequent four matches. After losing to Athletic Bilbao, Rayo secured a creditable 1-1 draw with Barcelona at home through Fran Perez’s volleyed equaliser. Their recent form includes a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Osasuna and another 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo, leaving them five points from five games.

Predicted Lineups

Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Llorente, Le Normand, Lenglet, Hancko; Simeone, Koke, Barrios, Gallagher; Raspadori, Alvarez.

Rayo Vallecano: Batalla; Ratiu, Ciss, Lejeune, Espino; Valentin, Diaz; De Frutos, Palazon, Garcia; Camello.
