Flamengo have moved closer to signing Lucas Paquetá after West Ham gave the green light to a €41.25 million offer, fixed with no bonuses, with only the payment schedule still to be agreed.

"What I can say is that we are close. The difference is the payment structure that will decide it. We have reached agreement on several aspects that I consider more important. I am proud to say Flamengo keep their word and fulfil absolutely everything they agree. We are between the supporter, who wants it closed quickly, and the president, who has a responsibility to the institution and the nation not to commit to what we cannot fulfil. It is better to be certain that we will be able to pay and West Ham receive. That is the stage we are at now," he told TNT Sports.

Speaking at the launch of the 2027 Women’s World Cup brand in Copacabana, he outlined a remaining hurdle over terms, with Flamengo proposing to pay across 3 years and West Ham preferring 18 months.

Recent West Ham Premier League wins without Paquetá, and the player’s firm stance that he does not wish to play for the club again, have helped ease his release. If a payment schedule is agreed, the midfielder will return to Flamengo immediately.

The clubs are discussing a middle ground on instalments, with optimism that both sides will be flexible. A plan between 2 and 2.5 years is under consideration, and those involved believe the deal could be settled by midweek.
