Andreas Christensen now appears increasingly likely to remain at Barcelona despite earlier doubts surrounding his future and the rejection of the club’s initial renewal proposal.
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, negotiations between Barcelona and the Danish defender have improved significantly in recent weeks, with both sides now moving closer towards finding a final agreement.
While nothing has officially been signed yet, optimism is growing internally that Christensen could eventually extend his stay until 2028.
The situation looked far more uncertain not long ago after the centre-back reportedly turned down Barcelona’s first contract offer, leading to suggestions that he might leave.
However, talks have since progressed positively, and the feeling around the club is now much more encouraging regarding his continuity.

Despite receiving financially stronger proposals elsewhere, Christensen has continued to prioritise Barcelona above all other options.
One key factor in the negotiations is his salary. Christensen has been among the higher earners at the club, but he is now prepared to accept a significantly reduced wage to continue at Barcelona.
That willingness to compromise financially has helped negotiations move forward and has strengthened the club’s desire to find an agreement.
At Barcelona, it is said that they value the player’s attitude during difficult moments for the club, especially regarding registration problems in previous seasons. Back then, Christensen’s cooperation was appreciated.

Notably, his time at Barcelona has been heavily disrupted by injuries over the last two campaigns, limiting his overall impact on the pitch.
This season alone, the Denmark international has only managed 17 appearances across all competitions, making his only start against Guadalajara in the Copa del Rey back in December.
Injuries have undoubtedly hurt his standing within the squad, and there are understandable concerns about his long-term physical reliability.
However, when fit, Christensen has consistently shown he can perform at a very high level in possession-based systems.
