The summer transfer window is still a few months away, but FC Barcelona are already laying out a roadmap to strengthen the squad for the next season.
As has already been reported, signing a new centre-back and a centre-forward are set to be priorities for the Blaugrana heading into the summer.
However, a lot will depend on the financial situation as they await their return to the 1:1 Fair Play rule, which would make things much easier in the market.
Now, according to an exclusive report from The Touchline, Barcelona’s plan for the summer transfer window is to sign one ‘top’ player for a fee in the summer, while targeting one to three free agents as part of a financially controlled strategy.
Given the economic constraints, the Blaugrana are unlikely to have a lot of funds to go after multiple big signings in the summer.
As such, Deco & co. are taking a measured approach wherein the plan is to go after one top-level signing – which could potentially be in the No. 9 position to replace Robert Lewandowski.
Meanwhile, Barça will also dip their toes into the free-agent pool for reinforcements – a strategy that has worked quite well for them in recent years with limited finances.
In fact, an additional report from The Touchline insists that free-transfer signings will be given major priority by the reigning La Liga champions come summer.

To that end, Barcelona have already identified several potential targets who will be out of contract at the end of the ongoing season.
This includes Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, a player who had been heavily linked with Real Madrid not so long ago. Another Premier League defender, Marcos Senesi of AFC Bournemouth, is also on the radar.
Meanwhile, Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva, a long-time target of the Blaugrana, especially during the Xavi Hernandez era, is also back on the agenda.
Finally, the Catalan giants are also keeping tabs on the situation of Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, a player Hansi Flick knows very well from their time together in Germany.
It will be interesting to see whether Barcelona sign one or more from this list of players. But for now, the plan appears to be to make one ‘top’ signing and strengthen the squad with free agents.
