Barcelona are edging closer to one of their most important off-the-pitch objectives in recent years, which is the compliance with La Liga’s long-awaited 1:1 financial fair play rule.
According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona are now just over €10 million away from meeting the requirement, a milestone that would significantly improve their ability to operate freely in the transfer market.
The progress has not come overnight. Instead, it has been the result of a series of calculated financial moves carried out over several months.
One of the most significant steps was the renewal of Frenkie de Jong’s contract, which allowed Barcelona to spread deferred salary payments over a longer period, easing immediate pressure on the wage bill.
Alongside this, the long-term injury to Gavi and the decision not to sign a replacement also helped reduce short-term expenditure.
Commercial activity has played an equally important role. Barcelona recently reached an agreement to lend their name and crest to a luxury city project set to be developed in Dubai.
The deal, which still requires approval from the club’s Assembly of Delegates, includes placing the Barcelona logo on the back of the first team’s shirt in non-Champions League matches, replacing the UNHCR branding.

Player sales have also contributed. The transfer of Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez to Paris Saint-Germain for €8.2 million proved particularly important.
That operation allowed Barcelona to recover one of the guarantees previously submitted to La Liga.
The recovered guarantee, worth €19 million, was later used to facilitate player registrations.
The final hurdle now centres on the VIP seat deal linked to Spotify Camp Nou. Initially, Forta Advisors contributed €30 million up front, while New Era Visionary Group, represented by Ruslan Birladeanu, committed to paying the remaining €70 million.
Of that amount, €28 million was paid in January, followed by an additional €12 million. The outstanding €30 million is scheduled to arrive in June.
Once that payment is received, Barcelona are expected to finally reach the 1:1 rule.
