Barcelona are reportedly tracking Bayer Leverkusen’s Algerian prodigy Ibrahim Maza at the African Cup of Nations 2025 (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
The 20-year-old has been in scintillating form for Algeria, scoring in the 3-0 win against Sudan. He also produced a solid display in the 1-0 win against Burkina Faso.
Barca scouts have been impressed by Maza’s performances, with the Catalan giants adding him as a potential future target.
Leverkusen paid €12 million for Maza’s services from Hertha BSC in the summer, and he has made a significant impact this season.
He has netted four goals and three assists for Die Werkself in all competitions, while garnering wider attention for his impressive displays in the Champions League against Manchester City and Newcastle United.
Operating as a No.10, Maza ranks among the elite dribblers and creative passers in Europe. His shooting prowess makes him a dangerous outlet in the attacking third.
The Algerian prospect has been pivotal behind Leverkusen’s resurgence under Kasper Hjulmand, with the Bundesliga giants now sitting third in the table following a disastrous start to the season.
Maza’s stock could skyrocket if he continues his fine form with Algeria at the AFCON. He will be next in action against DR Congo in the Round of 16.
Barca are currently stacked with quality attacking midfield options such as Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez.
However, Hansi Flick’s men will not pass up a chance to sign a top-quality talent like Maza, given Olmo’s injury struggles and lack of consistency.
Barca’s priority will be adding a centre-back and a striker for the summer of 2026.
Nottingham Forest’s Murillo, Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, and Levante’s Karl Etta Eyong are some of the reported targets.
