Barcelona are interested in signing Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon but they are “not leading” the race to sign him.

Bayern Munich are genuinely interested in bringing him to the Bavarian club this summer, while Premier League giants Liverpool are also keen.

Gordon has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern in the past few months, with the German champions having made him their top priority signing.

Are Barcelona leading the race for Anthony Gordon?

Several media outlets, including The Times have reported that Barcelona have made “strong approach” for Gordon, and the Catalan giants have moved ahead of Bayern in the race to sign the Englishman.

The Magpies need to offload a few players to make room for new additions, and Gordon will be sold in the summer.

There is also a suggestion that Gordon needs fresh challenge elsewhere after making over 150 appearances for Newcastle.

In the 2025-26 campaign , Gordon was impressive in the Champions League, where he registered 10 goals and two assists.

Christian Falk has exclusively told CFBayern Insider that Barcelona are not leading the race for Gordon, but they did make some contact with the player’s intermediaries.

The Bild journalist has told us that Barcelona still want to sign Marcus Rashford permanently from Manchester United, and he is their first-preference.

The Catalan giants can only do one such deal for a new winger, and they are trying to put pressure on Man Utd. However, if they cannot reach an agreement for Rashford, then they will try to secure a deal for Gordon.

Anthony Gordon too expensive for Bayern Munich?

Newcastle have set an asking price of around £75m for Gordon, but a final fee could be broken down into a guaranteed £65m payment plus £10million in add-ons.

While Bayern retain strong interest in Gordon, they are only ready to pay in the region of £51.9m, which is somewhat short of Newcastle’s valuation of the player.

Bayern could look to include more add-ons as part of the main fee to come close to Newcastle’s valuation, but at the moment they find Gordon too expensive.

Liverpool need new wingers in the summer window and they have the financial power to secure a deal for the versatile attacker.
