Barcelona may still attempt to sign another striker this summer even if the club successfully completes a deal for Anthony Gordon.
According to fresh information shared by journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona’s pursuit of the Newcastle United attacker does not automatically eliminate the possibility of bringing in an additional forward later in the transfer window.
That update comes as an important development because many around the club had started believing Gordon’s arrival would effectively end Barcelona’s search for a new number nine due to financial limitations.
The Catalan giants are currently advancing in negotiations for the England international and understand that completing the operation will require a major financial effort.

Newcastle United are expected to demand a significant fee, meaning Barcelona will have to carefully manage their remaining transfer budget.
Because of that, it had been assumed internally that moves for Julian Alvarez or Joao Pedro would become impossible once Gordon arrived.
However, Romero’s latest update suggests Barcelona are not completely giving up on reinforcing the central striker position as well.
The club’s admiration for Julian Alvarez remains extremely strong, with the Argentine open to leaving Atletico Madrid after having informed the Madrid-based club that he would consider an exit if an important opportunity appears.
The problem, however, remains Atletico Madrid’s financial demands. Barcelona discovered that the operation would become almost impossible under the current conditions being requested by the Madrid side.

The situation involving Joao Pedro has evolved very differently but with a similarly frustrating outcome for Barcelona.
Internally, both the sporting department and Hansi Flick are believed to admire the Brazilian’s profile enormously.
Despite that, Chelsea have informed Barcelona that they view Joao Pedro as completely untouchable at this stage of the transfer window.
Still, Barcelona continue monitoring the situation closely in case circumstances eventually change later in the summer.
