Barcelona & Real Madrid stars dominate list of stars with most appearances this season | OneFootball

A trio of players from the respective squads at La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid feature on the list of defenders with the most matches played in Europe this season.

As much has on Monday been confirmed by statisticians Opta.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are of course fresh off locking horns in the finale of Spanish football’s leading domestic cup competition, the Copa del Rey, this past weekend.

Both have also played the maximum number of fixtures in the Champions League to date, which, added to their La Liga schedule list, makes for a hectic campaign all told.

And along the way, two Barca stars, and one from Real, have racked up over a half century of appearances.

As per the aforementioned Opta, of ‘the defenders of the top five European leagues with the most appearances in all competitions this season,’ Jules Koundé leads the way, with 52 outings to his name.

Following Manchester United pair Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui (51 apiece), meanwhile, come another Barcelona stopper in Pau Cubarsí, and Real Madrid stalwart Antonio Rüdiger (50).
