As soon as that Champions League anthem played, PSG looked like they flipped a switch and went right back into the form they showed last season that allowed them to win the UEFA Champions League.
Despite missing Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé for the Matchday 1 clash against Atlanta on Wednesday night, the Parisians were a well-oiled machine. PSG scored two goals in the first 45 minutes and two in the second half for the convincing 4-0 win.
Moreover, all the goals came from four different players, so it was a team effort from the Ligue 1 side to secure the three points to start their Champions League campaign on the right foot.

Now that the Atalanta game is behind them, PSG will focus on Barcelona. Luis Enrique and his team will travel to Spain for what is going to be the marquee matchup of Matchday 2, considering these two clubs nearly faced each other in the Champions League final last season.
Nonetheless, ahead of that matchup, Atalanta manager Ivan Juric sent a warning to the Spanish club and all those on the Parisians’ Champions League league phase schedule of what to expect from the treble winners from last season.
“The difference was huge,” Juric told Sky Italia. “They are on a much higher level than us (…) Should we have been more cautious? We studied PSG’s games closely. The teams that tried that didn’t even give themselves a chance and ended up losing even worse.
“The only teams that really hurt Paris were Strasbourg and Lens, teams that tried to win the ball back quickly and counter fast. We chose that approach.”
