Ever since he left La Masia back in 2019, Xavi Simons has been constantly linked with a move back to FC Barcelona.

There were strong rumours last summer as well, and there were a few meetings held between Deco and the 22-year-old attacking midfielder’s agent. Ultimately, though, nothing came of it, and he ended up signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

Heading into the upcoming transfer window, the links have resurfaced again with reports suggesting that Barça are considering a move for Simons.

No return for Simons

However, according to SPORT, Barcelona are not considering Simons’ return at this time.

Tottenham’s disappointing season, with struggles near the relegation zone and elimination from the Champions League by Atletico Madrid, has increased speculation about a possible departure for the 22-year-old Dutchman.

However, a return to Barcelona is not on the cards for the La Masia pearl. The reasons for this stance are not only financial but also related to sporting planning.

For starters, having spent €60 million on his signing, Spurs are expected to seek at least €45 million for Simons in the summer.

This is considered a difficult amount to manage under the club’s current financial constraints, with there being other priorities in the market.

Additionally, Barcelona believe that bringing Simons back for a significant transfer fee would send the wrong message to its academy players.

The Dutchman chose to leave the club previously, and his return under these conditions does not align with the current sporting policy, which focuses on promoting homegrown talent.

As such, despite the speculations, there will be no return to Barcelona for Simons, who could be leaving Tottenham after only one year.
