FC Barcelona are expected to approach the upcoming summer transfer window with ambition, but recent comments from president-elect Joan Laporta suggest the club will proceed with caution rather than urgency.

The Blaugrana have been linked with reinforcements across multiple positions, particularly at centre-back and centre-forward, while improvements on the flanks also remain under consideration. However, Laporta has made it clear that strengthening the squad will not come at the expense of stability.

In an interview with Món Esport (via Mundo Deportivo), the incoming president addressed the club’s transfer plans and urged restraint despite growing speculation.

“There is no need to go to the market just for the sake of it, and we must continue to assess what we already have in-house to improve the squad if necessary.”

Laporta emphasised that continuity should be the priority after building a competitive team capable of challenging at the highest level.

“I understand that we will continue improving in all aspects, but I must say that what I believe should be done after having built such a competitive team is to maintain it and consolidate it.”

A key pillar of this approach remains the continued integration of academy talent, with Laporta once again underlining the importance of La Masia in shaping successful Barcelona sides.

“I believe in it! I did it in my first term. I am never doubtful about this. I have always believed that the best Barça – even the greatest Barça teams in history – have had a core of homegrown players alongside high-quality arrivals. Now we have a lot!”

While advocating for internal development, Laporta did leave the door open for targeted additions if deemed necessary by the sporting department.

“We will only make signings if the football management requests one or two players who can strengthen this great team we already have.”

Barcelona have already been linked with high-profile names such as Alessandro Bastoni and Julian Alvarez, fuelling excitement among Culers. However, Laporta’s stance suggests that any potential arrivals will be carefully considered rather than part of a major squad overhaul.
