It is known that at Barcelona, the need for a reliable striker is of extreme necessity.

Notably, among the many names linked with the club, Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez has emerged as one of the most prominent options.

However, despite the admiration for the Argentine forward, the reality of completing such a deal appears increasingly complicated.

Now, according to MARCA, Barcelona have not been overly influenced by recent developments surrounding Alvarez’s contract situation at Atletico Madrid.

Even though Atletico are reportedly working to improve his current deal, which already runs until 2030, Barcelona are not rushing into a decision.

In fact, the club have yet to make a definitive call on whether he will be their primary target.

Release clause makes deal unrealistic

One of the biggest obstacles is Alvarez’s staggering €500 million release clause, a figure that effectively rules out any direct move unless Atlético are willing to negotiate.

Without the Atletico Madrid’s approval, Barcelona have very little room to manoeuvre.

On the other hand, the Catalans are also realistic about the situation, as they are not expecting the player to force an exit or create tension to facilitate a transfer.

As things stand, the deal is viewed as highly complicated.

More to the story

Barcelona’s position is also heavily influenced by financial considerations.

The club is determined to avoid repeating mistakes from previous transfer windows, where overspending created long-term issues.

This is why Barcelona are not prepared to stretch beyond their financial limits, even for a player of Alvarez’s quality.

Rather than aggressively pursuing a single high-profile target, Barcelona are expected to keep multiple options open as they search for the right striker.

While Alvarez remains a name of interest, the current circumstances make a deal unlikely unless there is a significant shift, particularly from Atlético Madrid’s side.
