Discussions with Leverkusen are expected to pick up after the German season ends, with the final round scheduled for this weekend.

Before Leverkusen’s interest, he was monitored by Chelsea, then by Benfica as a possible replacement for José Mourinho. He is expected to take charge of a team soon.

His Flamengo stint brought silverware, with the Copa do Brasil in 2024, followed by the Supercopa do Brasil, Campeonato Carioca, Libertadores and Campeonato Brasileiro the next year.

He oversaw 100 matches for Flamengo, with 63 wins, 21 defeats and 16 draws, and departed on 3 March after an 8-0 victory over Madureira at the Maracanã. Flamengo, now led by Leonardo Jardim, face Vitória at 21:30 Brasília time on Thursday 14 at Barradão in the Copa do Brasil fifth-round second leg.
