For a long time, the situation regarding a contract extension for the two experienced goalkeepers Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich at FC Bayern was unclear. A decision is now said to have been made in Ulreich’s case
Since joining FC Bayern from Stuttgart in 2015, Sven Ulreich has remained loyal to the German record champions – with the exception of a one-year stint at Hamburger SV in the 2020/21 season. Whenever regular goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was unavailable, Ulreich was on hand and proved to be a reliable back-up for Munich
With the transfer of Daniel Peretz from Tel Aviv in 2023, but at the latest with the signing of promising goalkeeping talent Jonas Urbig last winter, Ulreich increasingly took a back seat at FC Bayern
Nevertheless, the club’s management appreciated the 37-year-old’s qualities: the number three goalkeeper, who always had the club’s backing even after suffering serious personal setbacks, has always been a reliable team player and has used his experience to give young colleagues helpful tips along the way
For these reasons, Ulreich’s contract was extended by a further season last year, meaning that his contract , like that of Manuel Neuer, will expire in the summer of 2026
Just over six months before that, the future of Bayern’s all-time great has apparently been clarified. As reported by Kicker reporters Georg Holzner and Frank Linkesch, Ulreich is expected to retire at the end of his contract. According to the report, Bayern will not offer him the prospect of another contract as a player

At the same time, however, it is to be expected that the keeper will take on a different role at the club, although it is not yet known what this might look like
With Ulreich, a silent hero of the German record champions would hang up his soccer boots. Even if he mostly plays in the second row behind world goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, Ulreich’s achievements are considerable: with Munich, he became German champion nine times, DFB Cup winner three times, German Super Cup winner seven times and also won the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup in 2020
The team would miss Ulreich’s character on the pitch and in the dressing room, but he could not be drawn too far away in a potential new position.
