Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich – commemorating his 100th UEFA Champions League match last night – remarked that Bayern’s hard-fought win over PSG stood out as the most intense affair of his entire Bayern career. Kimmich obviously wasn’t the only one subject to such intensity. Everyone supporting the club from the stands remained on edge throughout the entirety of the fixture as well.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen – addressing the team at a post-match banquet – exuberantly lauded Man-of-the-Match Manuel Neuer, sneaking in a joke about what the 39-year-old keeper was still capable of at his age. Dreesen also spoke on an unfortunate incident that took place prior to kickoff that saw several buses of traveling Bayern Munich supporters arbitrarily detailed by Paris police.
“It really felt like a semi-final or Final,” Dreesen said of the match itself. “It was incredible in the stands. We were on the edge of our seats and fighting alongside you. It demanded a little something from us as well. This was truly special. This was the fifth time in-a-row that we’ve defeated Paris in the Champions League.
“Congratulations to our Man-of-the-Match Manuel Neuer,” Dreesen continued. “Don’t be mad at me, but I think it’s incredible what you can still accomplish at your age.“
“And I want to say something else right at the end here,” Dreesen noted later. “The fans that supported us today, arbitrarily detained by the Paris police, didn’t have it easy today.
“There weren’t allowed in initially and were held up without food, water, or access to bathrooms,” Dreesen continued. “Thankfully, we were able to arrange with the fan clubs to secure some additional bus drivers so that they could make it home tonight. My most sincere gratitude to those drivers.“
