Chelsea have a lot of players they need to sell this summer, but the only one which has a lot of movement around them at the moment is Djordje Petrovic.

The Serbian goalkeeper has been strongly linked with both Bournemouth and Sunderland in the last couple of weeks. Today top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano gave his seal of approval to the former move, with a Tweet saying that the Cherries had made their initial offer.

Djordje Petrovic wins Strasbourg POTS award

As always, Ben Jacobs has swooped in shortly after to try and add some more detail. He’s said in his follow up Tweet that Chelsea are “seeking €30m” for the goalkeeper, again noting the alleged gentleman’s agreement between player and club that they will let him go should they receive an offer at that level.

Given the number of teams interested, it seems fairly likely that is an easy price to reach. We would imagine that Bournemouth aren’t far off it already, in fact.

Djordje Petrovic sale is a controversial topic at any price

Of course, a sale of Petrovic isn’t going to be a particularly popular move with many fans whether it’s for £25m, €30m or even €40m. Consider this – the season before last, Petrovic ended up taking the number one shirt off Robert Sanchez under Mauricio Pochettino.

He then followed this with a really exceptional season at Strasbourg where all the stats had him as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. Meanwhile, Sanchez’s troubles continued at Chelsea.

Most fans would have Petrovic as the best goalkeeper on our books right now – so why are we so keen to sell him? Whatever the price, we don’t want to see our team weakened. Selling Petrovic without signing a replacement would do just that.
