José Mourinho has left Henrique Araújo out of Benfica’s squad to face Juventus on Wednesday.
The team flew on Tuesday to Turin for matchday seven, the penultimate round of the Champions League league phase. According to Glorioso 1904, Araújo did not make the trip and is not among José Mourinho’s options.
The Madeira-born forward has slipped down the pecking order this season. His most recent appearance came in the 2-0 win over Atlético in the Taça de Portugal, a 12-minute cameo that underlined his secondary role.
This term he has featured in 12 official matches, five in Liga Portugal Betclic, four in the Champions League, one in the Supertaça, one in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Segunda Liga, totalling 135 minutes without a goal or assist.
Henrique Araújo is leaving Benfica this January window, with Vitória de Guimarães a strong possibility. Staying in Liga Portugal Betclic appeals, keeping his competitive level in an ambitious team.
Benfica are also without Samuel Soares, Alexander Bah, Joshua Wynder, Nuno Félix, João Veloso, Richard Ríos and Dodi Lukebakio through injury, while Sidny Cabral is not registered with UEFA.
