In one of the season’s poorest crowds, the Bernabéu turned toxic as Florentino Pérez confronted a heckler and a banner reading “Florentino, vete ya” appeared. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, its removal sparked a scuffle with security. It capped a week ending in a second straight trophyless season.
After the dismal Camp Nou showing, a backlash arrived during the warm-up minutes before 21:00. Around 10,000 early arrivals booed the hosts and applauded already-relegated Oviedo. Kylian Mbappé did not join the four academy substitutes, Joan Martínez, Palacios, Yáñez and Thiago, while Jude Bellingham, Antonio Rüdiger and Fran García also stayed inside.
During the presentations the stadium applauded Santi Cazorla, but Arbeloa, Aurélien Tchouameni, Vinícius and, above all, Mbappé were whistled. The PA was turned up to drown protests, yet once the game began the same players were targeted again, with Mbappé spared initially as a substitute.
Supporters had coordinated online, urging the Bernabéu to speak at 21:30 for Real Madrid v Oviedo. Pérez tried to play down booing, saying members should not jeer their own, likening it to criticising family, and that socios are there to look after players.
The crowd then turned decisively on Mbappé. He began warming up on 57 minutes to loud boos, warmed for 10 minutes with Pintus, then on 68 replaced Gonzalo, applauded scorer of the opener, amid another barrage. Every touch drew whistles as his chances came to nothing, Bellingham later rounded off an inconsequential win, and Mbappé left dejected while Pérez looked exasperated.
