Inter Milan have received a boost in the race with Juventus for João Cancelo after Barcelona cooled their interest in the Portuguese full-back, amid doubts inside the Catalan club over the feasibility of the deal.
Despite initial discussions with his agent Jorge Mendes.
The main issue remains Cancelo’s salary, which Barcelona consider too high even if a significant portion were to be covered by Al-Hilal.
During a recent informal meeting between Mendes and Barcelona president Joan Laporta, the situation was reviewed in detail.
The conclusion was that there is no agreement within the club on whether pursuing the player would be the right move.
Barcelona have also made their market priorities clear. The club want to invest in a central defender rather than a full-back.

As Sport explains, the profile being sought is a reliable centre-back, preferably left-footed, strong in the air and comfortable in possession, without representing a high-risk investment.
Head coach Hansi Flick reinforced that stance in his latest press conference.
Indeed, stressing his desire for a dependable central defender who could play immediately.
With Barcelona hesitating, the picture shifts elsewhere.
For Inter, the lack of conviction in Barcelona could prove decisive. As talks continue over a possible return of Cancelo to Serie A.
