Botafogo have begun mass lay-offs as they seek to cut costs before facing Flamengo in the Carioca quarter-finals. According to Coluna Do Fla, the club’s SAF has started reducing headcount in the build-up.

Cuts have hit marketing, legal, the membership programme and club shops. Further reductions this year are not being ruled out.

The club are dealing with financial difficulties. At the start of 2026 they were placed under a transfer ban, preventing new registrations in the window, though the situation has now been regularised for the moment.

On the pitch, Botafogo face Fluminense on Thursday 12 February at 19:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã.

They then meet Flamengo on Sunday 15 at 17:30 Brasília time at Estádio Nilton Santos. Rede Globo on free-to-air and Premiere on pay-per-view will broadcast the match.
