Morocco were 2-0 winners over Cameroon in the second quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Friday evening.

Chances were few and far between the two sides until Morocco broke the deadlock in the 26th minute.

Captain Achraf Hakimi whipped a corner into the area, where Ayyoub El Kaabi’s header fell kindly to Brahim Diaz, who applied the finishing touch.

The Real Madrid star has now become the first player to score in each of his first five AFCON appearances and the second to score against five different teams in a single edition of the competition.

Morocco came close to doubling their advantage twice before the break, with Abde Ezzalzouli and El Kaabi’s narrowly missing the target.

The second half started like the first, with no real chances at both ends, although the Atlas Lions dominated possession.

The hosts eventually created an opening on the hour mark as Hakimi delivered a corner-kick into the area which Ezzalzouli headed just inches beyond the goal.

Ismael Saibari came the closest to adding to Morocco’s advantage, with his goalbound header cleared off the line by Samuel Kotto.

Saibari doubled the hosts’ lead in the 73rd minute, placing his shot beyond goalkeeper Devis Epassy’s reach to net his first goal in the competition.

Cameroon attempted to respond late on, but struggled to carve out an opening to seriously test Yassine Bounou.

Moroco will face the winner between Algeria-Nigeria clash in next Wednesday’s semi-final.
