Grêmio have received formal notice from Braithwaite over overdue payments, as the club targets starting 2026 without financial arrears.
GZH reports that, on Tuesday 16, the centre-forward’s representatives issued a notice to formalise a claim for overdue sums, with the amount put at approximately R$ seven million. The club must settle the full amount.
If the matter is not resolved, the ultimate consequence could be contract termination, with the player leaving for free and entitled to the total value due until the end of the deal. His contract runs to December 2027.
Braithwaite, Grêmio’s No 22, has been sidelined since September after rupturing his Achilles tendon. Surgery was required and a return is only expected from April 2026.
The new hierarchy, led by president Odorico Roman, is negotiating with creditors in line with current cash flow to address outstanding debts to players, agents, clubs and suppliers. To raise immediate funds, forward Alysson has been sold to Aston Villa, with proceeds earmarked for urgent liabilities.
