Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is determined to remain at Carrington despite renowned interest from Roma.

The Dutchman has been heavily linked with the exit door since the start of the season due to the lack of playing time.

The 24-year-old failed to earn a starting berth in any Premier League contest this season prior to Benjamin Sesko’s injury.

Afterwards, he made three starts against Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham, only managing to score on the second occasion, before being relegated to the bench once more on Monday for the 4-1 victory over Wolves.

Joshua Zirkzee prefers Man Utd over Roma

In recent weeks, Zirkzee emerged as Roma’s primary target to bolster the attacking department. Gian Piero Gasperini isn’t satisfied with his current attacking options, Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson, so he asked the club to sign the Man Utd star, whom he had been eyeing since his Atalanta tenure.

On Tuesday, Sky Sport Italia revealed that the Italian capital side is in direct talks with United for Zirkzee. The Giallorossi have enquired about the player’s availability, while proposing a loan move with a buy clause that would be triggered under certain conditions.

But according to Sky Sports UK, Zirkzee has made his stance clear, revealing his desire to stay at Man United and continue to fight for his place.

This news is certainly music to Ruben Amorim’s ears. Even though the Portuguese manager doesn’t consider Zirkzee a regular starter, he undoubtedly appreciates his versatility and the alternative skill set he offers.

The former Bologna star is not a traditional centre-forward, as he enjoys roaming all over the pitch and contributing to the build-up play.

The fanbase will also be delighted by the Netherlands international’s decision, as Zirkzee is considered a fan favourite at Old Trafford; the fans can be heard passionately chanting his name in almost every MUFC match.

The Dutchman will certainly get another crack when Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are away for the African Cup of Nations, but the competition for starting roles in attack has been fierce this season, as it also includes Matheus Cunha and a revitalised Mason Mount.
