Goalkeeper played pivotal role in run to Carabao Cup quarter-finals
Brentford goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2030, with a further two-year option.
Valdimarsson’s contract had been due to expire in 2028, but the club triggered a two-year extension in the Icelandic international’s deal.
The 24-year-old joined Brentford from Swedish side IF Elfsborg in January 2024 and has gone on to make 12 appearances in all competitions for the Bees.
Valdimarsson made his Premier League debut in December 2024 after replacing the injured Mark Flekken away to Brighton.
Operating as an understudy first to Flekken and then to Caoimhin Kelleher, Valdimarsson has been used predominately in the domestic cups and played a pivotal role as Brentford made it to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals this season.
"I’m delighted Hakon is signing a new deal," Andrews said.
"People maybe don’t recognise what goes on behind the scenes, and the importance of some of the players who are part of this journey; Hakon is a big part of the fabric of this football club, and he understands it.
"He’s a very liked individual, he’s got some very close connections within the club, he’s an outstanding goalkeeper - we’ve seen that when he’s played this season - and we’re really happy that he’s signed a new deal."
“I’m very happy to stay here two more years,” he said.
“The last two and a half years have been very good. I’ve been very happy here, and now, after Keith took over, I just enjoyed my time here.”
