Saka remains sidelined as his recovery from a hamstring injury continues, with no fixed date set for his comeback.

Bukayo Saka remains some way off a full return, with Mikel Arteta confirming the winger has “a lot of things to go through” in his recovery.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined since pulling up with a left hamstring injury against Leeds on 23 August. It is the second hamstring issue this year, though far less severe than the tear in his right leg that required surgery last season and saw him miss months of action.

Arteta, speaking on the eve of Arsenal’s Champions League match in Bilbao, made clear there is no definitive timeline.

“He still has quite a lot of things to go through, and it is very early to understand what week he is going to be available,” Arteta said.

“He will certainly be pushing to be available as quickly as possible.”

Saka has already missed the win over Nottingham Forest and the defeat at Anfield before the international break, and will sit out the visit of Manchester City at the weekend.

Shortly after his injury, it was reported that he would be back in around four weeks, which would have seen him return at the weekend for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side.

There is still cautious optimism he could be back by the end of September, but no guarantees he will be back in time to face Newcastle or West Ham at the start of October.
