Bayern Munich edged Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2, Bayer Leverkusen slipped 1-0 at Union Berlin, and Ragnar Ache lit up 1.FC Köln’s 2-2 with Hoffenheim.
According to Get German Football News, Matchday 23 opened with a basement draw as Mainz and Hamburg finished 1-1, before focus shifted to the Allianz Arena. The build-up featured Vincent Kompany speaking about racism, then Frankfurt criticised Bild over a question put to Albert Riera about remarks from Max Kruse and Martin Harnik.
On the pitch, Aleksander Pavlovic and Harry Kane struck in the first half, then Kane added a third just after half-time.
Frankfurt rallied as a Jonathan Burkardt penalty, conceded by Kane, and an Arnaud Kalimuendo finish set up a tense finale, but Bayern held firm. The victory temporarily extends their advantage to nine points, with Borussia Dortmund to face RB Leipzig later today.
Leverkusen, impressive against Olympiacos in midweek, laboured at Steffan Baumgart’s Union and lost 1-0 to Rani Khedira’s first-half effort. They managed only one shot on target and an open-play xG of 0.58. Depending on tomorrow’s results, they could be six points off the Bundesliga top four.
Ache’s opener for 1.FC Köln was a stunning bicycle kick from Said El Mala’s cross that flew into the top corner of Oliver Baumann’s goal. As overhead kicks go, it stood out because the ball neither bounced nor lost flight given the angle.
With Luis Diaz named ARD goal of the year winner for 2025, competition for goal of the season may be stiff. Yet, as Harry Kane won the award after recreating the Bundesliga logo before a tap-in, there is also a chance Ache prevails.
Elsewhere, Augsburg beat Wolfsburg 3-2, scoring twice in the final six minutes to move into 10th. Wolfsburg could drop into the bottom three depending on tomorrow’s results.
