Argentina have named their 55-man preliminary squad for this summer's World Cup.

The defending champions' squad is led by 38-year-old veteran Lionel Messi, with the retired Ángel Di María the only player from the starting XI in the 2022 World Cup final penalty shootout win over France not included.

Three Bundesliga players have been named in the preliminary squad: Bayer Leverkusen duo Exequiel Palacios and Ezequiel Fernández, along with Hamburger SV’s Nicolás Capaldo.

The squad will later have to be reduced to a maximum of 26 players for the tournament.
