Burnley are exploring a move for West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse (31) as they look to address a growing injury concern in the heart of their squad, according to reports from Sky Sports.

Talks have taken place between the two clubs, but there is no expectation of immediate progress before Burnley host Tottenham Hotspur this weekend. Midfield reinforcement has become a priority following confirmation that captain Josh Cullen will miss the remainder of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Ward-Prowse is viewed as a like-for-like replacement in both profile and experience, offering leadership, tactical discipline, and set-piece quality at a crucial stage of the campaign. However, Burnley face logistical challenges in the transfer market, with a full 25-man Premier League squad currently registered. Any new arrival would require either a departure or the unregistration of a senior player.

Despite reported interest from other clubs in defender Oliver Sonne, as well as Hjalmar Ekdal and Quilindschy Hartman, Burnley are reluctant to sanction exits without suitable replacements lined up. The club are determined not to weaken an already stretched squad as they battle to preserve their top-flight status.

Recruitment officials are focused on adding only players who can make an immediate impact and integrate seamlessly into what is described as a close-knit dressing room. With survival at stake, Burnley’s approach remains measured, selective, and firmly aligned with first-team needs.
