RB Leipzig have made an offer worth up to €24m for Burnley centre-back Maxime Esteve.
Burnley are set for a very busy summer as they prepare for life back in the Championship once again, where promotion will be the aim.
Even though the Clarets will be among the favourites to go up, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the club right now, as they don’t have a head coach in place.
When Scott Parker’s exit was confirmed at the end of April, many expected a new boss to be in place shortly after the campaign finished, but, as of now, Burnley remain without a head coach.
So, the immediate priority for Burnley will be to get Parker’s successor in place, and then it will be about rebuilding the squad in what is likely to be a hectic window.
Like all relegated clubs, Burnley know that sales are required to balance the books, with Maxime Esteve one of the prized assets at Turf Moor.
And, Burnley have received an offer for the centre-back, as journalist Sacha Tavolieri confirmed RB Leipzig had made an offer worth up to €24m for the left-footer.
He explained that the total package could reach that figure, although some of it is made up of bonuses, and it’s not clear how much of the fee would be guaranteed to the Championship side.
It’s also said that personal terms are not expected to be an issue if a fee can be agreed between the two clubs.
Esteve has been a key player for Burnley since his arrival from Montpellier, which included starring as they won promotion from this level in 2024/25.
Burnley just endured a terrible season, where they were relegated without putting up much of a fight, so it’s hard to give any players too much credit.
Nevertheless, Esteve was generally a decent performer, just as he was when he arrived in the English top-flight from France.

In his year in the Championship, the 24-year-old was a cut above most, and he was a major reason for Burnley’s outrageously good defensive record.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that he is attracting interest, and his age, profile and potential mean he is capable of making the step-up to a club like Leipzig, who will be playing in the Champions League next season after finishing third in the Bundesliga last time out.
Obviously, the chance to test himself at that level is going to appeal to Esteve, so you would expect this deal to get done if the money is right.
Burnley will definitely receive, and the make-up of the add-ons.
But, in today’s market, you would expect the Clarets to demand a bigger sum for Esteve, and it’s no surprise if they wanted at least €30m up front.
Whether that’s realistic as a Championship club remains to be seen, and, in an ideal world for Burnley, further interest will emerge to create a bidding war.
Ultimately, though, a summer move does seem likely for Esteve, and whilst that will be a blow for Burnley, the fee he brings in should kickstart the summer business at Turf Moor.
