Hakan Calhanoglu has thanked Inter and club President Beppe Marotta for their ‘understanding’ and for their decision to let him carry on with the Türkiye national team for another few days, despite concerns over a recurring injury issue.
The Nerazzurri midfielder could not play beyond the half-time break during the 0-0 draw between Türkiye and Wales in the Nations League over the weekend.
The 30-year-old said himself that he had felt the same discomfort as the thigh injury that kept him out of three Inter matches in October.
Though Calhanoglu will not be fit enough to play against Montenegro on Tuesday evening, he has been allowed to stay on and support his international teammates for another few days before he returns to Milano.
Calhanoglu has since revealed that the situation is ‘not serious’ and that he hopes to be involved with the Inter squad for the Serie A match against Hellas Verona at the weekend.
“I thank Inter President Beppe Marotta for his understanding,” Calhanoglu said in a recent press conference.
“The Nerazzurri directors called me and our coach directly after the game. I chose to stay here, but unfortunately I won’t be able to take part in the game tomorrow.
“I felt my old injury again, but it’s not a serious situation and I’m not in any pain. I hope to be on the pitch with Inter in the game against Verona.”
