Inter Milan are sweating on the fitness of Hakan Calhanoglu after the midfielder picked up an injury on international duty with Turkiye on Saturday evening.
As reported by Turkish news outlet Spor, and via FCInterNews.it, Turkiye coach Vincenzo Montella confirmed that the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder had been withdrawn at half-time due to an injury, but there was no further news on the severity as yet.
“It’s really difficult to take Hakan off the pitch,” Montella told Spor.
“You wouldn’t want to take him off in any team in the world. He’s a dominant player. There was an injury and that’s why we replaced him,” the former Roma, AC Milan, and Fiorentina coach added.
Calhanoglu had started the match at the Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri, as a dominant Turkiye side were held to a goalless draw by Wales, having missed a second half penalty.
The Inter midfielder was withdrawn at half-time and confirmed after the match that he is due to undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of his injury.
Turkiye’s draw confirmed their progression from Group B4, ahead of a trip to Montenegro on Tuesday evening.
