Bunny Shaw returned to the top of the WSL goalscoring charts on Sunday with her winner against Everton and she is now on track to win a third consecutive golden boot.
No player in history has ever won three golden boot’s and Shaw’s feat would be made even more impressive as it would be three consecutive titles.
=1. Khadija Shaw – 5 (Manchester City)
=1. Melvine Malard – 5 (Manchester United)
=2. Stina Blackstenius – 4 (Arsenal)
=2. Jess Park – 4 (Manchester United)
=2. Aggie Beever-Jones – 4 (Chelsea)
=2. Ornella Vignola – 4 (Everton)
=2. Alessia Russo – 4 (Arsenal)
After scoring for Manchester City this weekend, Bunny Shaw has made good progress towards her third WSL golden boot.
The Jamaican star has been a key to her team’s recent success and City went top of the table thanks to her winner against Everton.
City have now won seven league games in a row and they are by far the best form team in England right now.
After a slow start to her season, Shaw has scored four goals in her last five games to send her top of the golden boot race alongside Manchester United’s Melvine Malard.
Four goals won’t be enough to win the golden boot though. In 2024, Shaw won the prize for a first time with an incredible 21 goals in 18 appearances.
No player in history has ever achieved a higher goals per game average (1.16 per game) on the way to winning the award.
City’s all-time top scorer repeated the award last season but in 2024 she shared the title with Arsenal’s Alessia Russo.
The 28-year-old suffered an injury last season that limited her to just 14 WSL games. Shaw and Russo both netted 12 in the league last year, but the City striker played in seven less games.
City face United in what should be a thrilling Manchester derby up next weekend, but after that the current league leaders have a favourable run of fixtures.
While she may not reach her personal best of 21 goals again this season, Shaw remains a firm favourite to win a historic third golden boot in as many years in England.
