Canada host Bosnia & Herzegovina in Toronto to officially launch their home World Cup campaign.
The co-hosts enter Group B facing immense pressure to reach the knockout rounds. Jesse Marsch’s team boast an eight-match unbeaten run ahead of this monumental clash. They hope to overcome a miserable tournament record, having lost all six previous World Cup matches.
The home crowd will provide an electric atmosphere at Toronto Stadium. Both teams desperately need a victory before facing group favourites Switzerland and underdogs Qatar. Canada prefer to dominate possession and exploit spaces using their rapid wingers.
Marsch must prepare for the devastating potential absence of captain Alphonso Davies. The Bayern Munich star remains highly doubtful due to a lingering hamstring strain. Moise Bombito is also unlikely to feature after failing to prove his full fitness.
He continues to recover from a serious left tibia injury sustained earlier this year. Jayden Nelson recently joined the squad after Marcelo Flores suffered an ACL rupture.
Maxime Crepeau will start in goal after missing the 2022 tournament with a broken leg. Jonathan David will lead the attack, searching for his 40th international goal. He currently ties Mark Watson for ninth in all-time national team caps.
Cyle Larin and Jonathan Osorio will match each other with 90 international appearances. Stephen Eustaquio will control the midfield tempo alongside Ismael Kone. Tajon Buchanan will provide crucial width and direct attacking speed on the right flank.
Canada predicted XI: Crepeau; Johnston, de Fougerolles, Cornelius, Laryea; Buchanan, Eustaquio, Kone, Millar; David, Larin.
In the UK, the match will be broadcast live on television via BBC One. Viewers in the United States can watch the entire fixture on Fox.
